!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! the city of Zandvoort, renowned for not being a rich oil nation, wants to discus the possibility of bringing back F1 with the Dutch government. Something they say would cost several tens of millions of euros.

Let’s be realistic here, the track would need to be completely redesigned to be anywhere near up to todays F1 safety standards, and the infrastructure around Zandvoort and the track would need a lot of work.

Germany, where half the field of drivers seems to come from and the Championship winning team can’t even get together enough money to trow at Bernie.

Zandvoort can’t even consistently keep DTM to return.

A !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! turns out it would probably cost around 840 million euro for a 10 year contract and building/revising a track.

While I’d love to see this happen, this is just about as unrealistic as it gets.

renowned for not being a rich oil nation

There’s the problem right there.

Exactly.

They have a lot of sand though.. So maybe they think that will be good enough.

A Dutch GP would be cool considering Verstappen is an up-and-coming driver, but at a time when Germany struggles for a GP and France doesn’t even have one at all, I can’t imagine any approval at a municipal or federal level to spend over a billion dollars for a new race track and a once a year event that’s not even guaranteed to make your money back.

That being said, maybe Shell can spring for it - they could probably buy Zandvoort (not just the track but the town as well) if they wanted to.

The Verstappen craze is strong. If he gets to a top team, I could see this happening.

I like the idea of Zandvoort running a GP, but this is a horrible, horrible idea. If they want to kill the track, this is a good way to do it.

It’s a shame that any sort of “upgrade” to make the track more Tilke-friendly would probably neuter what makes it so interesting as is.

I think that would be pretty cool! A quick google shows that they haven't had one since 85, after the popularity of the Mexican GP it would be awesome to have another older circuit on the schedule!

Zandvoort is a fantastic track.

I personally would not want to see F1 return to Zandvoort. Every single corner would be changed/destroyed just like they did at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, that’s not cool.

Yeah, problem with F1 nowadays is that IF they race there, we will all be saying ‘Zandvoort was a fantastic track.’.

I know the track well and there is no way in hell it is close to ready for F1 standards. That and the access to the track and on track accommodations are bad already. I can only begin to imagine how much money it would take to get the track F1 ready. It would bankrupt the track as I don’t think they can get the money out of the F1 races (Look at Germany, COTA etc.) and there aren’t enough large racing series that fill the rest of the year.
